What is hypnosis?
Ever cried watching a sad film? Or arrived at your stop on the train and not
known where your mind has wondered off to in the last few minutes? If yes,
then you've already been in a state of hypnosis.
Even though we know the characters aren't real and it's just actors standing in front of
a set speaking aloud a script, we can still become engrossed in what we're
watching. Just like when we become engrossed in a conversation, a book or
even a daydream. This is because our conscious mind has let go of reality,
completely focussed on the matter in hand.
As you can see, as hypnosis is just an altered state of awareness it can be induced normally in everyday
life.
As there are many misconceptions and uncertainties surrounding the use of
hypnosis and hypnotherapy, this page will hopefully put aside any
apprehensions you may have about the subject.
Hypnosis is a truly natural and safe state of mind and body that is entered into when relaxed. It can be
an extremely calming and pleasant experience. People in hypnosis are totally
aware of themselves and their surroundings and are able to leave the
hypnotic state whenever they want to. There is absolutely no form of
unconsciousness and you will be in control at all times.
It is in this relaxed state that the actual therapy part
of the session takes place. It is the therapy that provides relief from the
symptom and creates positive change within the individual.
